What the eye doesn’t see-welfare cases

When you visit us, you see the end result of our mission: contented animals in a safe home. What you don’t see is the urgent work of our small welfare team working tirelessly behind the scenes. Working alongside partners like the RSPCA, HAPPA and World Horse Welfare, we act as a lifeline for neglected animals, bringing comfort and hope to those who need it most.

It’s been a busy start to the year with our team completing welfare checks on over 50 individual equines.

These have included:

3 x urgent incidents of loose ponies at high risk of a RTA.
Over 40 other individual animals were visited due to calls received for welfare concerns.
Some animals have been found living in unsuitable conditions, amongst rubbish and being fed potentially harmful food by well-meaning people.
One pony has been witnessed eating discarded nappies, and others in areas with hazards such as glass on the ground amongst the grass.
Some animals were showing signs of illness and injuries.

It’s really difficult to witness equines who are not receiving the care and suitable environment they deserve. We do everything we can to monitor, report and liaise with the relevant authorities and organisations to take steps to ensure each situation is improved.

We are also non-judgmental and ready to help any owners or guardians of equines who are struggling to provide the best life for their horse, pony or donkey.
