He is a black ¾ Welsh section D gelding who will be 4 in April 2020.

Piper is an affectionate, friendly pony who is very trainable. He loves exploring and interacting with people and is looking for a home where he can be socialised and continue his education.

Piper is currently standing at approximately 14hh-his sire is 14.2hh and his dam is 14.3hh.

He is in need of a home that is very experienced with young, green horses and be given the time, patience and kind handling to enable him to continue to grow in confidence and set him up for a happy future.

Piper is a mixed bag because he hasn’t seen much in his life so in many respects can be a little nervous and flighty in new situations.

On the other hand, he often runs towards danger rather than away from it, meaning there is a very confident horse in there waiting to be nurtured and brought out of his shell.

Piper has never been stabled or lived in a yard environment, having spent most of his life living out in a field with his family, so he has a lot to learn, and he would need to live in an environment where he is turned out initially. He would thrive on positive reinforcement training as he is a curious, engaging and willing pony.

He is in need of a home with geldings only or a mixed herd with mares who are able to physically and mentally tolerate his behaviour if he shows a lot of interest and pesters them initially, especially when in season.

Because he has only really known his mum as a mare, when he has lived with other mares he has found this over exciting. This should calm with time, but means he is not suited to a herd with older, arthritic, smaller mares who would find his advances too stressful. Additionally, facility for careful introduction to a new herd is important.

Piper needs a home with very secure fencing-he respects electric fencing if it is tall and switched on, but has been known to jump fences to gain the company of other horses if seperated, so this is an important factor in ensuring his safety in a Loan home. Hedges, dry stone walls and high post and rail/wire would be preferred as perimeter fencing.

We are happy to introduce potential applicants to Piper and discuss his needs further.
