Lovely Welsh pony Dusty is searching for an extra special home, can anyone help? He is a 12hh Welsh section A gelding aged 8. He’s been clicker trained in the past and responds well to this. He’s super smart and loves learning and engaging with people. He is a sensitive pony in some situations and this is mainly around separation anxiety and physical touch although these are easily managed in a good routine and with a conscious and caring loaner.
Currently Dusty is good to catch and lead, he comes into his stable away from his field mates and we have little issue with him, he is great in a routine when he knows what is happening. He is good to have his hooves picked out and as long as the approach is gentle he’s also good with the farrier, vet and general care.
He’s been led out on walks in the past and likes exploring his surroundings but equally would be happy staying home and taking part in on the ground activities.
Being a Welsh, Dusty has been found to have a head a little too small for his teeth which after extensive investigation has led us to conclude that he subsequently has had some soreness and discomfort around his TMJ and jaw. This in turn has resulted in soreness all the way through his back. Of course we have addressed this with bodywork sessions/physio.
We feel that Dusty would benefit from a home as a companion with young horses he can play with as he is playful and engages well with others. He is currently in with a herd of geldings but can mix with mares too. He can be left on his own once he is in a routine of going into a stable and given something to occupy him.
He’s easy going with other ponies – if anything he gets a little bullied but is a loyal and loving friend to anyone that will have him. He’s also playful with younger ponies so suits all types.
Dusty has been in at least 10 homes now since birth and we are determined that his next home should be his forever home. He has a lot of love to give and with the right family he will make a good addition as a companion and pet.
He’s available within a 70 mile radius of Leeds in Yorkshire but would consider further for the right home.
He’s currently at Hope Pastures Rescue centre and although he’s welcome to stay with us as long as needed he is young and could be out there in his forever home and another needy pony could take his place so it would be amazing to find the right home.
