Red

Red: Miniature Shetland gelding, 2.5 -3 yrs old. Red is an extremely quiet and friendly pony who makes a good companion to Pearl. He has had a rough start to life and had been tethered by a busy road, kept in a garden, and badly handled by horse dealers. However, he still seems to love people and gets on well with other ponies.

6th February 2011. We visited Pearl and Red  who have been in their adoption home for a few years now, and they are looking very well.  Pearl had been suffering with Laminitis through the summer but has made a good recovery with careful management and care from her owner. She has a very small freind, a toddler called Amelia who regularly perches up on pearls back and holds on to her mane tight while her mum and dad muck out the field! Pearl seems to take her duty very seriously to care for her young jockey and stands like a statue, it is very sweet to see. Red also lives in the same home as Pearl and is used as a companion to keep the big horses company while the others go out for rides and shows. He has a reputation for being stubborn and cheeky but his carers and very fond of him and for a young pony he is coming along well.He has changed a lot from when he first came to Hope Pastures and was very scrawny with long legs, now he is very stocky and stumpy! And very cute as well.

16th September 2007 Little Red was moved to a new foster home back with his old friend Pearl. It was good to see the two back together.

Red and Pearl Red New Home

8th October We have found a really good home for Red. He has settled in nicely with his new friends

When he arrived with us he was badly infested with lice and worms. Red is now fully wormed and has been vaccinated against worms and tetanus. He had never met a farrier before and is defensive with his legs. He will pick each hoof for a few seconds, so he is beginning to learn.

He has even managed to find someone smaller than himself !
