- August 26th 2010 We were very pleased when Sophie, our yard manager, came to the rescue of a gentleman called Herbert and his horse Bridie. Herbert is an elderly gentleman who had been very close to his friend Bridie for nearly thirty years. When it became apparent that he could no longer look after her, he didn't know what to do. He wanted to find someone who would take great care of her and came to us. After a short while at Hope Pastures, Sophie manage to find Bridie the kind of home Herbert was looking for.
Bridie went off to her new home today and traveled well. After a bit of sorting out who is boss with her new friends Jack and Zebedee she settled quite well and Herbert was happy to see her Grazing and settle right in.

- 21st January 2010 Bella came to Hope Pastures malnourished like Grace. Both horses had been living together in the same field and would have come to the sanctuary at the same time only Bella wasn't able to be caught.
Bella came to us from the same field as Grace after we had complaints from members of the public and the RSPCA were involved.
The mares were too weak to travel far but urgently needed to be taken to a place of safety, as their owner was In hospital and hadn’t been able to feed or care for them over the harsh winter.
Bella had a filly foal at foot and was very nervous and would not let anybody near enough to catch her.
She was very thin and full of lice and living on an exposed hillside with more severe weather forecast it was a race against time to devise a plan to catch her and load her safely & with the least stress possible.
After we had collected her friend, Grace a few days earlier we had offers of help from local horse owners to help catch and load Bella.
We gave her some sedative in some feed and waited for this to take effect, then enclosed her into a smaller area and a brave person managed to get a head collar on her. She loaded into the trailer with the help of a bucket of feed as she was so hungry. It was sad to leave her foal behind but as they were not in such poor condition the RSPCA prioritises the removal of the two mares only.
Bella has come along really well, and has benefited from being de-loused and wormed and fed a weight gain diet and plenty of forage. She had a lovely assortment of rugs allocated to her which she seemed to really appreciate, and after many weeks of grooming her skin recovered from the lice and rain scald and she now has a lovely shiny summer coat coming through.
Bella is very nervous and now needs a lot of gentle, non forceful handling and training to help gain her trust in people again. She is looking for a loving permanent home with experienced owners and we hope the right, special people will come along and offer her a forever home.

- 15th January 2010 Grace came to Hope Pastures in a malnourished state. We are now looking to re-home her. Her details are as follows:
14.2hh Bay Reg Welsh Sec D mare 4 years old, ready for backing.
Very quiet and friendly , a lovely pony to have around.
Good to load and handle, great with vet and farrier.
She lives next to a main road so has seen traffic and does not seem phased by it.
Grace is available for permanent loan within a 30 mile radius of Leeds,(negotiable to the best home) under our loan agreement and only to a home which meets our minimum home requirements.
Not to go to a home where severe training methods would be used- we are happy to provide help with the more peaceful methods of teaching if advice is needed with Grace.
Please call us on 01132614344 if interested.14.2hh Bay Reg Welsh Sec D mare 4 years old, ready for backing.
