Hilton (Arrived at Hope Pastures 14th January 2007)

Hilton is a very handsome 17hh bay gelding who is 9 years old.
We took Hilton in as he had been left on a local livery yard, unwanted as he has a rotated pelvis which means he is unable to be ridden. He was due to be put to sleep on the 26th of november which would have been a terrible waste of life for this lovely friendly boy.

24th September 2008
A very important date, not only for Hilton but also for Hope Pastures. Redwings Horse Sanctuary, kindly agreed to take him to their stables in Hapton, Norwich where they could give him the kind of medical care he much needed on his pelvis.
What follows is a report and photo's sent to us by Redwings:
Hilton has only been with us here at Redwings Horse Sanctuary for just over 2 months, arriving at our reception center on 24th September 2008. Whilst there, horses health, behavior, dietary requirements are assessed so that a suitable group and location can be found to introduce them into. Equines are usually turned out into one of the wood chip paddocks where they have access to a field shelter and room to move around freely outside. They soon get used to the daily routine at the yard and the sound of the staff's cars arriving in the morning which heralds the arrival of breakfast!
Hilton was at the quarantine farm for just under two months, as he had to wait to receive results back to indicate that quarantine was no longer necessary for the whole of the intake in quarantine. On the 18th November we were able to take him to our headquarters here at Hampton Estate, as this is the home of our state of the art veterinary unit.
Since being with us at Hampton on of our vets has started work upon him .Veterinary notes indicate that he has had an initial assessment whilst being lunged on either rein, on both soft and hard ground. As you can imagine his level of lameness differs on each hind leg depending on the direction he is traveling. He currently receives a twice daily dose of Danilon to help keep him comfortable. I believe he is usually obliging in taking his medication; it probably has something to do with the fact that it is helped down with a handful of mix!
He has been vaccinated, wormed and foot trimmed recently and has been a really good boy to care for. He seems very popular with everyone who passes his stable; he is a very handsome chap! On 6th and 7th December we open our doors to our supporters for our Christmas weekend: I expect hilton will have many more admirers by the end of the weekend.

May 2007
Hilton has settled in very happily at his new home and we enjoy having him in our horsy family.
He has begun to show his personality a lot more lately and has become good friends with Paddy and seems to have chosen Tina as his long term girlfriend, having got over an earlier crush on Shazeke.
However he can be rather bossy toward Molly and Willow and doesn't act like such a gentleman around them, he thinks its fun to chase at them now and again with his ears back, especially at tea time when he likes to trot along behind Tina to the stable yard to eat his feed. If any of the other old ladies get in his way he will soon show them who is boss, much to Willows disgust.
Health wise, he is being kept as comfortable as possible although he still requires anti-inflammatories daily .
He has regular Equine Muscle Release therapy (EMRT- more details about this therapy please visit www.bowentraining.co.uk )he seems to be benefiting from this as if left too long without a treatment he soon becomes stiff and slow. This is a very popular treatment which is used on horses who are homed with the ILPH to help them get back to good health.
He is always in good spirits and loves to race along with paddy and Willow on their morning gallop.
