November 05
Perry has had a check up from the vet and had her tetanus injection which she stood very nicely for. The vet was happy with her condition and pleased with her teeth.
We have began putting nice warm stable rugs on for her to keep her cosy at night, and if the weather is bad through the day she has her thick waterproof rug on, because she is almost 36 now she needs a lot of extra attention.

October 05
Perry is doing fabulously and has been in very good health apart from her nose infection. Her coat has been shiny all summer and she has mostly been eating well too.
The vet has told us that they cannot operate on her Guttural Pouch infection due to her age and the high risk involved, but it seems to be settling down on its own and we have to vigilant at keeping her nostril clean and plenty of repellent to keep the flies at bay.
We are hoping to acquire some photos of her when she was younger too, as she is definitely one of our oldest residents being at least 35. Being this old, Perry takes a lot of special care especially in winter so we have had all her rugs cleaned and re-waterproofed, and we have had a rug donated with a full neck which we have sent for repair which should fit her nicely and keep her extra snug in extremely cold wet weather.

August 05
Perry has been causing us a lot of worry lately as she has been quite poorly. She had her six monthly dental treatment and did very well, although she had to have half of a tooth removed which was loose. She also had her teeth rasped a little to prevent the edges becoming sharp. However a few days later we noticed a very bad smell coming from her and the flies were very attracted to her. She was also leaving her food, which with a horse as old as Perry is really not ideal. We called the vet out who suspected some kind of infection up Perry's nostril.
She has been on a course of antibiotics which improved her but did not completely clear up the Infection.
One Wednesday evening she came in for her supper with a nosebleed so the vet was called out again and she was prescribed more antibiotics. We are hoping that this will clear things up.
However we are pleased to say that she is now eating all her meals again and seems a happy horse in herself, so we will wait and see how things go with her and hope there is nothing more serious going on than an infection.

April 05
Perry is doing very well after a worrying time with her poor appetite. We were worried not long ago that Perry didn't seem keen to eat all her tea, although it wasn't long before that we had her teeth rasped. The vet had been out and performed more dentist work but explained that as Perry has a very old mouth with teeth missing and soft gums, it will be a struggle to keep her eating properly.
We now make her feed even more sloppy, and put in extra fibre cubes to replace hay which she can't manage.
She is now eating much better and is in better condition than she has been in a long time.
Perry will always look slightly thin due to her age and digestion problems but as long as she is lively and happy in herself we will be happy too.
We do sometimes feel sorry for Perry, as Zimba can get quite possessive of her, and while he will interact with any of the others he chooses, when Perry tries to he will soon be herding her away again!
Although we will sometimes look up to the field and see Perry having a quiet half hour alone in the corner well away from Zimba without him having noticed.
