Pepper is a beautiful 15-month-old Welsh Mountain Pony yearling colt. He is bay with two white socks and a blaze and is due to be gelded soon. Once he has recovered he will be ready to go to a new home. Pepper was taken from his mother and sold at a farmer’s auction in Wales when he was just 4 months old, two months later he was tethered up .He has had a hard start in life but he still loves people. He is a brave little guy who deserves a very special home.

Garnet (formerly 'Pepper')
We are very proud of Garnet and his loan owner Christine, who have had a very hard past 12 months. Garnet became ill and after lots of investigation he was found to have sinus infections due to damage in his roots of his teeth.
Garnet has bravely endured 2 major operations which involved long stays in the horse hospital, and having a sinus dain put in to his head to ease the infection and create access to his sinuses to clear them daily.
Garnet has behaved so well and endured lots of painful procedures, he has been a little soldier througout it all. Christine has been the perfect owner and been at Garnets side throughout everything, spending hours with him at the hospital just talking to him, grooming him and taking him for walks.
Garnet is lucky to have such a devoted owner and we wish them many happy years together, Garnet is making a good recovery and is now back home with his pony friends and enjoying life like a normal pony.He came to us after being discovered chained up on a disused waste ground last winter, he has been there in all winds and weathers since he was just 6 months old. Luckily a caring person took pity on him and offered to buy him from his owner and after paying the final installment on him, asked us if she could sign him over to us and help her remove him from his tether and bring him straight to Hope Pastures.
His former owner had broken him to ride at just one year old, which is far too young but Pepper was well behaved even in traffic.
August 2008
He is very sweet natured and trusting and loves human company. He is also a very brave pony as when Hope Pastures went to collect him he was led from a nearby town and passed buses, cars, bikes, dogs and children without blinking an eye. He even went over a wooden bridge, which went over a waterfall, which is something that most ponies would spook at.
Pepper is registered with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society and his bloodlines are detailed in his passport, however he may not be suitable for showing in breed classes as he is slightly club footed on his front hooves .Pepper needs a home where he will have other ponies to play with and where his weight can be monitored, as being a native pony he is at risk of becoming overweight. He should grow to around 12hh and at four years old will be old enough to begin his training to be ridden again.
All potential homes will be checked and his chosen new carers will be asked to sign a loan agreement. Hope Pastures will need to visit him regularly to check on his progress. All our loan ponies are only re homed within a 30 mile radius of Leeds.
Pepper has been re-homed to a lady who was originally involved in his rescue, she became so fond of him that after he was gelded she offered him a permanent loving home at a nearby farm with other ponies to play with and a stable with a specially made tiny door so that he can see out properly.
He had become quite coltish with his behavior and naughty but with careful and consistent handling he has come on leaps and bounds, even attending a local show in the summer and winning 1st prize in the 'Bonny Pony' class out of over 25 other ponies!
He is now 2.5 years old and it is a year since he was rescued from the tether where he was neglected and lonely and tied up in all weathers.
He is learning more about life and is regularly taken for walks on busy roads and past tractors and farm vehicles , which he never blinks at. His loaner is hoping he will become a safe riding pony who will be backed next year when he is 3 and will attend more shows as he seems to love being busy and going to different places.
