Gypsy

Gypsy is a pretty black shetland mare who is around ten years old and stands at around 10hh.
She has a lovely temperament and loves people and children.
She was found wandering the streets with neck wounds from a badly fitting tether, she also had bad sores all over her body due to untreated sweet itch, as well as being severely overweight, with overgrown hooves and a heavy worm burden,she was a sorry sight.
We immediately applied soothing cream to her sores and bathed her neck wound, and arranged a restricted diet for her.
The vet was called and she was prescribed medicated shampoo and strong antibiotic creams, and a pregnancy test was taken to ensure she could be wormed safely as there were signs that she was in foal, fortunately the results were negative.
She was wormed and had her hooves trimmed and some friends of the sanctuary very kindly bought her a special coat to protect her from flies.

Gypsy has had a good summer and has been busy working at the pony days, being pampered and groomed and having her mane and tail platted! She has been so well behaved and the children really loved her, she is so good to lead around and never pulls or gets too strong.
Gypsy’s sweet-itch has been kept under control and apart from a few small sores she didn’t suffer too much.
Toward the end of summer the weather became rainy so we couldn’t put her usual fly coat on, however her skin became itchy when it got wet so one of our staff was kind enough to order Gypsy and her friend Flossy a full neck light weight rain sheet, which is a flattering lilac colour and Gypsy looks very girly in this!
 Over the summer Gypsy and Flossie were introduced to Thelwell and Jasper and begun to share a field with them, they all get along well and there have been no arguments however the girls are definitely in charge.
Gypsy and Jasper have fallen in love and can often be seen grazing side by side and grooming one another, if Gypsy goes out before Jasper on a morning then when Jasper goes out he will trot very fast down the field to find Gypsy then he will settle by her side for the rest of the day.
